Biking in Virginia – June 2009

Bike Virginia riders enroute

Bike Virginia riders en route

On June 16 Michael Sharkey and I began our big bike trip of the year in Washington, D.C. Here’s Howie  and   Michael in front of the Capitol. On the 18th we biked from the Lincoln Memorial to each of the war memorials and finally the Jefferson Memorial.

On the 20th we drove to Charlottesville, VA to commence a five day ride with 2000 cyclists on a Bike Virginia ride. This is me in my official tee shirt.   And  Michael on his trusty Trek. Michael snapped me the next day as I passed a horse farm. The bike route looked much like the picture above day long. One of my favorite pictures is this hilltop enroute.

At the Culpeper campsite I could only find a 24 oz. beer can at the nearby convenience store. Culpeper’s weekly block party was underway that evening. A portion of the tents that housed the 2000 cylists can be seen here.
