Bebe at the Hotel Amadeus in Seville

On November 11, 2006, Bebe & I flew to Seville, Spain to begin a 10 day trip through parts of the Andalucia region that we had missed during our honeymoon 52 years earlier.

Arriving in Seville the following day a taxi dropped us at the end of the narrow street in the old Santa Lucia section where our hotel, the Amadeus, was located.

The Giralda tower of Seville’s spectacular cathedral came into view as we began exploring Santa Lucia.

The nearby Mudejar palace, the Alcazar required the better part of a day to explore. The moorish architecture is evident in the Court of the Damsels.

On day 4 we picked up our Renault Clio and took mountain roads through Ronda and Grazelema on our way to Arcos located on a hilltop with narrow, barely passable streets.

From Arcos we made a day trip to Jerez to view a performance at the Real Escuela Andalucia del Arte Equestre. Here’s what the arena looked like before the show during which no photos were permitted. Bebe bought a DVD for viewing at home.

Back in Arcos we lunched one day in the rooftop garden of our hotel, the Casa Grande. The town center above and some of the valley below can be seen here.

On day 7 we did some more exploring on our way to Cordoba. The hillsides visible from the highways were often covered with olive groves.

Another hilltop village came into view and had to be explored. This was Zuhero where we had lunch in the square at the top of the village. The houses below were the traditional white.

We reached Cordoba that evening and began our visits the following day with the Fortress of the Christian Kings. Here is one of many photos of the pools and gardens.

The medieval city in Cordoba had many little streets like the Calle de las Flores. Our last day included a visit to the city block size Mezquita (mosque) built by the moors with hundreds of keyhole arches. A christian king later built an enormous cathredral within.

A drive from Cordoba to Seville with a stop at Carmona brought us near the airport from which we departed the following day.

In the middle of one of the best ski years in memory we took Aimé and Béa to Vail, Colorado during Québec school vacation (March 1-8).

On Sunday we made our way from Lionshead all the way to Two Elk to meet our long lost friend, Howie Wheeler and his wife Susan for a mid morning hot chocolate.

Aimé and Béa took to the fabulous snow as though they’d been skiing all winter long. Here they are at the top of the Meadows overlooking Mid-Vail.

Most days ended with dunk in the hot-tub in front of the Aspen building at Streamside.

We were joined on Wednesday by Leslie and Colin who had flown in from Nevada.I caught four of us at Eagle’s Nest on the way to game Creek Bowl. The kids spent the evenings on line on their laptops in our wi-fi condo.

Aimé’s photos included Colin on his telemark skis, Béa in the bumps on Riva Ridge and the lingerie tree in the Back Bowls.

On Saturday we boarded a Continental flight at Eagle-Vail for our return to Vermont (and more snow!)

On March 30 Bebe and I returned to Vail for our ski season “Dessert” week. We were joined on Monday morning by Our favorite Sugarbush ski instructor Joe B, his wife Liz and daughter Bridget.

Photos collected during the week include a “Here’s how to do it” by Joe, Liz’s version in new snow and Bridget’s boarding technique.

Of course we had to pose Bridget and Joe astride the elk statue at the Two Elk restaurant.

Bebe and Joe both skied with their i-pods. They are at the summit here with Blue Sky Basin in the background.

We finished the week with some bump lessons on Lower Ramshorn. Joe demos and Bebe follows.

Kristen with newborn miniature Nigerian goat

On April 12, 2008 we headed to Kristen’s Littlebrook Farm where her miniature Nigerian goats had been producing babies. Kristen is shown above with a newborn in her arms.

This one is a few days older and a bit stronger. It manages to walk the plank with a sibling until it became tired and found a safe place to rest.

Bebe scooped up another one for a kiss.

Meanwhile in the other barn the sheep are lambing.

This page was created to provide a place for images of Winterset Farm in different seasons. We’ll start with an October view of the house and barn from the pasture below with some of the fallcolors. Here’s one of Bebe on Linnekin just behind the house alongside a small patio, also in October.  The view through the livingroom  window at this season is spectacular. If you step outside in the garden you might see these colors.

When winter arrives the scenery is very different. Have another look at Bebe & Linnekin in front of the barn. The view of the barn from the pasture below looks like this. The entry to the house requires a lot of snow removal. In 1998 the girls performed a musical ride  in the indoor arena. When they returned to the barn they made quite a picture in the snow.

When spring arrives the view of the entry looks very different. The view of the mountains changes by the season, the day and the hour. One morning in May a large cloud lay across the mountain tops. With some professional help there are flowers close to the house, at the corners and out we we can view them from inside.

During the summer of 2004 I took a picture Winterset Farm from Fuller Hill with a telephoto lens that looks like this. Here is an aerial photo taken in 2005 that includes the house, barn, riding arena and equipment shed.

Here is a view across the pastures as they are being cut near summer’s end.

During the winter of 2011 in addition to skiing almost every day at Sugarbush we made three trips out west, one to Heavenly and two to Vail. The Vail trip during President’s Week was Kristen’s chance to introduce Tom Norwood to our favorite resort. Shown above are Kristen, Tom, Leslie, Travis and Bebe at Blue Sky Basin on a sunny day.

Travis was the peak of a Tom-Kristen based pyramid at the summit.

I had a tough time getting far enough ahead to catch stills of these skiers in motion so we tried some video. Here is two minutes of video with glimpses (in order of appearance) of Leslie, Bebe, Kristen and Tom.

I did catch a still of Leslie just once!

In between Vail trips Bebe and I got all dressed up for an Opera Benefit dinner.

On our return trip in late March (our “dessert trip”) to Vail Bebe and I made full use of Blaise and Leslie’s privileges at the Arabelle in Lionshead including morning coffee and after skiing snacks when booting and debooting.
