Kari Sobeck and Dana Henry were married at Winterset Farm on August 20, 2011. Parents, relatives and friends spent many hours preparing the indoor riding arena to accomodate the reception beginning months before the wedding and culminating with a major effort in the days preceding August 20.
Jim Henry and Brian Joslin installed 1000’s of little starlights along the roof trusses and amongst little trees placed along the sidewalls. Nancy Henry filled sap buckets with wildflowers that were placed at eye level along the sides of the arena. Everyone pitched in to suspend canoes above them. Much of this can be seen in this photo of Kari’s mom (Mary Jane) folding napkins.
Mary Jane, Emily, Kari and Lori planned every detail while Kay Henry and Judy Phelon prepared the flowers for each table.
Doug Wilson’s flatbed trailer made a perfect bandstand in front of which was assembled a dance floor.
Here are the tables with all but the flowers in place. On another table guests could select a miniature canoe placeholder from those heading down through the rapids to the finish line. The end result was an arena that looked like this when the reception began.
In mid-afternoon the wedding party arrived along with photographer Chris Riley to begin the many group photos. I have included here Kari & Dana with Kay and Jim and Kari with her mom and siblings.
The wedding ceremony was conducted by Bob Anthony on the field below our house. Brian, Dana, Bob, Kari and Emily are visible here.
Following the ceremony Chris Riley mounted a tall stepladder to capture a view of all the smiling faces. As the sun set Chris captured some beautiful photos in one of our pastures including the prize winning photo above when Whisper decided to join Kari and Dana.
When night fell the interior of the arena became a magical place I had never seen but hard to catch in a single photo. Tom Hooper’s music kept the dance floor very busy. Here are Bebe and Dana dancing with Tim and Ben Wilson.
The big weekend ended for us with the opening of wedding gifts in our living room the following day.
