A two week trip with Dana & Claude in June 2022

On May 31 Bebe and Howie drove to Dana and Claude’s home in Sainte Béatrix Québec to begin a two week trip through eastern Québec.  Photos that appear here were mostly selected from the hundreds taken by Dana during the trip. We had dinner that evening at at Brasserie Artisanale in Joliette
We left the next day for Québec city where we met Aimé for dinner at restaurant Le Saint-Amour where he had worked for several years.
Our second day in the city included a visit to the Chute Montmorency where the Sable enters the Sainte Lawrence
On Friday, June 3 we drove to Tadoussac visiting the maritime museum at Ste.Joseph along the way. The following day toured the dinosaur museum. and dined at the Hotel Tadoussac
On Sunday June 5 we continued northeast on route 138 to Les Escoumins where we visited the Marine Environment Discovery Centre before boarding the ferry to Trios-Pistoles
We drove an hour northeast on the south side of the river to the Auberge Marcel Gagnon art center in Sainte-Flavie where we spent the night.

In the morning we continued northeast to Mont-Joli to visit 90 year old fiddler Yvon Mimault

Then east on the 132 to Carleton-sur-mer where we spent the night at B&B Manoire Belle Plage and in the morning continued east and north around the peninsula to Gaspé stopping at Rocher Percé where we boarded a boat to Ile Bonaventure to view northern gannets at the bird sanctuary.

We arrived that evening at the mysterious William Wakeham B&B.
The breakfasts were the best part of these accommodations including my favorite french toast (pain perdué)

On Wednesday June 8 we explored the Parc Forillon and Fort Peninsula lighthouse.

Later we toured a restored farmhouse after stopping and knocking on the door

Thursday June 9 we visited the Pointe-à-la-Renommée historic site where Marconi installed North America’s first maritime radio station. Then on to the Parc national de la Gaspésie in the Chic-Choc mountains where Dana had booked a cabin

On Friday June 10 after breakfast in our cabin we toured the attractively decorated Exploramer marine museum

On Sunday June 12 we travelled back along the south side of the river to Riviére-du-loup visiting Reford Gardens-Les Jardins de Metis and arriving at Hotel Levesque for the night.

We made a 6:45 AM departure to board a 9AM ferry from Berthier-sur-mer to Grosse-Ile

Grosse Île was once the main gateway into Canada and served as a quarantine station for the port of Québec from 1832 to 1937. It contains the Irish Memorial National Historic Site

Continuing south we arrived at the home of  musicians Gaetan and Louise in Portneuf where we were joined by Aimé and shared dinner and entertainment by at least 9 musicians.
