Courchevel, Val d’Isère – France 2006

991

2006’s skiing included a two week trip to our favorite areas in Europe, Val d’Isere and Courchevel, France. We were accompanied by Rod & Joy Hayes of Montreal whom we had met at Vail in 2003.

On the way from Geneva to Val d’Isere we made a lunch stop in the Old City at beautiful Lac Annecy.

Our home for the week at Val d’Isere was the Hotel Altitude just a short walk from the slopes. some days we rode the nearby teleferique to the Bellevarde. On others the Express chair to the Solaise on the other side of the valley. An aerial view of Val d’Isere can be seen from that chair.

On the Bellevarde side the Face Olympique plunges all the way back to our hotel. Several trips were made to the 3456 meter tram station on the Grande Motte.

At the end of week one we drove to Courchevel 1850 (one of les 3 Vallées) for our second week. Our home here was the Hotel Courcheneige located on the piste Bellecote.

Our skiing in the 3 valleys took us often to the top of the Vizelle from which the top of the Sauliere looked like this. One day we traveled across all three broad valleys ultimately riding the tram to the summit of the Cime de Caron in Val Thoren. On the return we lunched in Meribel then skied for many miles as we made our way back to our hotel.
