On July 23, 2011 Bob Stevens and Howie drove to Cortland, New York for the start of a seven day bike ride through the Fingers Lakes. We pitched our tents at the fairgrounds, inflated our air mattresses. grabbed dinner and were ready to begin the ride from Cortland to Ithaca College the following day.
We (and 628 other cyclists) were accompanied to each campsite by the fabulous shower truck. Here’s what our reconstructed homes looked like at Ithaca College.
In addition to a generous breakfast in the college cafeteria (or firehouse) we were supplied with fruit, beverages and snacks at mid morning and mid afternoon rest-stops.
As you can see from the map the routes took us along as many of the lakes as possible. The views included many of the vineyards and wineries in this region including this one at a rest-stop.
Bob is ready to begin our final ride from Skaneateles. The cyclists streaming by frequently looked like this. Approaching a hilltop on the way Cortland we see two recumbent cyclists in the foreground.
